one thing the drug companies do for certain-they will redesign a pill cosmetically in order to postpone generic versions longer.

i am very leery of drug advertising, especially ones that want you to tell the doctor what to prescribe to you. while i think the "stats" are slanted, i also cannot help but think how much money is wrapped up in overdiagnosis of conditions and the labelling of normal occurrances as illnesses. i do know social anxiety is beyond "unable to speak in public". one form of it is agoraphobia. but it seems nowadays, if you don't like, say, eating guacamole, someone has given it a medical name and there's a pill for it.

the reason a cure for diabetes might not be out yet is because drugs do require a lot of testing-the whole thing with zomax and seldane are evidence of that. pharmaceutical companies cannot win on that: if you test it for ten instead of 12 years or so, you are hammered for releasing it to the public too soon. if you take 15 years to make sure it is safe, you get hammered for holding onto it while "people are dying". just for the record, there is a ton of money to be made on not curing diabetes-not just insulin and testing supplies, but for medicines to help blood circulation, medicines and treatments for heart, liver and kidney diseases, the sale of arifical limbs (especially lower legs), treatments for vision, etc.
