In the UK, we are lucky enough to pay a relatively small amount for prescription drugs; and if you're very ill, or have some chronic conditions or illnesses, they are free. The current situation in the US, as I understand it, is that unless you have been able to afford insurance, you just don't get your drugs (put me right if I am wrong here)
 
This would be, um, "problematic" for my parents: both have life threatening illnesses requiring a vast amount of medication; and very little money.
 
I accept the R&D argument to a degree: but profiteering out of misery, particularly the misery of the elderly, is troubling, to say the least.
