Terry Brooks is pretty damn good. I read this one years ago.
Just finished The Broker by Grisham. Currently reading a 1960s college history textbook. Fuck--they used to require cognitive ability to read a text--this shit is very dense and requires attention. Interesting and detailed examination of Burke, Locke, Marx, et al. And very illuminating on the current debate in US society. Laissez faire or socialism? Or the recognition that it's all bullshit based on the proponents point of view? But, don't allow that either side may have a point in today's intellectual climate. You will be scathed and scorned. I'll keep it to myself.

I'm reading a lecture Amma held for the french film association in 2007 related to the documentary 'darshan, the embrace' by dutch filmmaker jan
kounen, introduced by sharon stone. I met her and it was fantastic. (so did 30 million others :-)) and very moved by it. I would recommend it to anybody, so
healing, nourturing, soothing, whatever the word is. I believe she recently held an american tour. this is the stuff what people travel to india for. I think
it's greater that she was here tough. then you get the experience while two feet on the ground and without the extra's of travelling to an exotic
country or other wooly things or unneccesary additives :-) just the pure stripped thing. she's got accesible little books on various interesting subjects
like understanding and collaboration between religions. peace. etc. I sound like a hippie.

I'm rereading all the books that are on my university application that I said I really liked, so:
Hitler, Hubris by Sir Ian Kershaw Die Blasse Anna by Heinrich Boell Die Dreigroschenoper by Bertold Brecht The Master and Margarita by Mikhajl Bulgakov The Greatcoat by Nikolaj Gogol And I'm also reading: The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy... And the German version of my favourite book, Angst und Schrecken in Las Vegas "'One-hundred per-cent!' said the man, who was fond of whimsical and figurative expressions."

@Twisty: if you like German translations (which can be good fun to read) try reading Get Shorty in German as well. You will laugh your ass off. And try some
books of Thomas Jaud, for example Resturlaub or Millionair for contempory funny German books. Funny as hell! For more serious stuff: Das Boot is a killer. Not
suitable for claustrophobics though!
And I recently read The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I read it in one day. Scary but very intruiging novel. Must read for the apocalyptic novel lovers. |

last month i started to read "Les Chants de Maldoror" (German version) for about the third time, but failed again after the first chapter..lol,
it's so hard to read and u have to be really concentrated. I would also love to read Machiavelli's "der Fürst", but i guess i will have the
same problem with that, too few time, not enough concentration and not enough stamina.. a good alternative are hearing books..i heard the entire
"Steppenwolf" while cleaning my flat..lol

the problem with lovecraft movies-everything he writes is scary because everything you can imagine in your head is better than any monster movie guys can create...Dunno Darks, the movie Re-Animator was pretty freakin' cool, albeit pretty cheesy... Every time the waitress stabs my receipt onto the pointy thing at the pizza place it reminds me of that movie. currently reading: The Forest And The Fort - Hervey Allen I WOULD be reading Elvis, What Happened? but I've ordered it from the library twice, apparently all 3 copies they had have been checked out and never returned. |

Leonard Cohen's Beautiful Losers for a Canadian Literature course I'm taking. It's just complete crap and I still can't imagine discussing it
with the teacher without him coming out as a perverted old man.
I'm with Darksinger on the Lovecraft-movie dilemma. No way a movie could ever capture the horrifying things our imaginations create. That would be the reason why the books are generally better than the movies that are based on them. edited because I have too much time

The Twisted Priestess |

My friend is reading such a good book for her literature course. It's got the best sex scene EVER right - the guy is trying to get off with his wife and
she's like "URGH NO, WHAT'S THAT?" and pointing at his willy, and he's like "This is my MANHOOD!" Excellent.
"'One-hundred per-cent!' said the man, who was fond of whimsical and figurative expressions."

So I guess literature studies revolve around sex everywhere in the world. Well, what doesn't.
Twisted Priestess, do you remember the name of the book? I think I should insist that they include it in our studies as well =) |
