Yup, I read, wrote and spoke Latin at school for a couple of years! Very exciting.

Oops, sorry Slap, I forgot that when you compare things you have to put them in chronological order.

Oops, sorry Slap, I forgot that when you compare things you have to put them in chronological order.Well not necessarily (good Latin word that, "necesse"), but when suggesting that one language reads like another I think it is fair to suggest that the modern language reads like the ancient one rather than the other way around. Lib - learning Latin did actually help me to learn to spell correctly, a large percentage of English words have their root in Latin (as in the example above).

I also studied Latin (and ancient Greek) back at school.
Looking back, I find it all a bit elitarian. ''Look at me, I know some difficult words in a dead language, so that makes me intelligent''. Whatever. That was also the motto of our fraternity: 'Ut latinum est'. 'As long as it is Latin' (written in the wrong grammar, on purpose). Coz all of these other fraternities had their motto in Latin and they found that very interesting. The only handy thing about it is, it helped me to learn other languages like French and Spanish easier. If you know Latin, you can recognise many words in these languages. On the other hand, if you know one of these languages, you can also easily pick up the other languages which are close to it as well.
