Last friday I helped him set his gear up, went upstairs for a little while. When I came back down he was playing Dopes To Infinity ! Granted, it was crappy and wrong, but I recognised it immediatly. I was so f'ng proud you wouldn't believe. He's had like 10 lessons by now, and is already cranking out Smoke On The Water and Iron Man. Is he going the right way or what ?

We're also very happy with our Vox amplifier (because of the effects). In retrospect, I shouldn't have bought a regular guitar (my first purchase), but a 3/4 model, like the Ibanez Mikro you see in the video. Half a year ago we also bought a second hand Boss ME-25 multi effect pedal, another great investment. Oh, and replace the strings with D'Addario EXL-120 Super Light Gauge, or something similar. Do you know Lick Library? They've got many free guitar lessons available on YouTube, and you can download many of the older DVDs (learn to play Metallica, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Pantera etc.). That movie really inspired my kids. When he gets into learning arpeggios, watch Crossroads. And when he's a little older: Pick of Destiny! And this may surprise some, but Guitar Hero has also been a great source of inspiration. It was through Guitar Hero that they got to know Ozzy Osbourne's Crazy Train and many other great classics. Guitar Hero didn't diminish their enthusiasm for playing guitar at all. On the contrary, it was after they started playing that game that they really got into learning new songs.

I love how half of Black's movies are for children (Gullivers Travels, Nacho Libre, School of Rock) while the other half (Pick of Destiny, Bongwater, Tropic Thunder, Year One) depicts him as a stoner.

But if anyone here would like to teach my son how to play Monster Magnet songs, by creating videos that show how the solos are played, please do. I found a page with tabs for many riffs (ucantdothattome.com/bullgod/tabs.htm), but no solos. Who knows how to play the solos of Superjudge, Twin Earth or Face Down? Who would like to teach them to my son?
